The Zikra Initiative creates trips for the urban community to travel, participate, and experience Jordan’s heritage and roots in interactive workshops led by the local community. In exchange, visitors pay a nominal fee that is channeled into a microloans for the women and other community development projects.
This initiative is founded on the principles of exchange tourism, the idea that both the communities and the visitors have something to bring to the cultural exchange. Visitors are welcomed into the Ghor al Mazra’a community for the day to participate in range of activities from making bread, tomato picking, or the intriguingly named "rural skills." Children and families are also very welcome.
This comes highly recommended from the GV team.
