Common Hope believes education is the key to unwinding the cycle of poverty. The organization provides resources for thousands of impoverished children to attend school each year. The organization also partners with local schools to support and enhance the education they provide by way of interactive, engaging curriculum, and individualized support for at-risk students.
The organization takes a 360° approach to education by nurturing students at home. They provide integrated services in health care, housing, and family development to provide the stability children need to succeed in life and in school. Volunteers are welcome to contribute their skills and expertise at Common Hope. There are both Short-term and Long-term opportunities available. The organization currently works in 26 communities near Antigua and Guatemala City.
Additionally, visiting teams may participate in a paid 5-day (Family Teams) or 8-day (Adult Teams) experience designed to enhance their understanding of Common Hope’s programs and the challenges of the children and families they serve.
Types of short- and long-term volunteering include:
Education: Tutoring, Teaching
Short-term Volunteers: 1 week minimum
Long-term Volunteers: 1 year minimum
No fee for short term or long term volunteers. Volunteers provide own housing — some host families are available with contact information found in the Common Hope Short Term volunteer handbook.
