Helping Overcome Obstacles Peru (HOOP) works with the impoverished people in the Flora Tristan community. Flora Tristan is a shanty town located on the outskirts of Arequipa composed of haphazardly constructed shacks which lack basic services, such as electricity or running water.

HOOPs current priorities are developing the Flora Tristan community by using strategic educational programs through which community members of all ages can advance their education, health, self-confidence and better their quality of life.

Preference is given to candidates who can stay more than 3 months though. The longer a volunteer or intern can stay the better it is for the beneficiaries and the individual as the work will be more sustainable.

HOOP offers volunteer opportunities as English teachers to either children or adults, as well as internships in the areas of communications, fundraising, program work or academic coordination. They are also looking for professionals who can run regular classes for their beneficiaries in the areas of psychology, health, finance, business administration and nutrition.

All applications require a criminal record check, a reference, a CV and cover letter.
