Founded in 1998, Animals Asia promotes compassion and respect for all animals and works to bring about long-term change. They work to end the bear bile trade, which sees over 10,000 bears kept on bile farms in China, and, according to official figures, about 1,200 suffering the same fate in Vietnam.
Sapa O’Chau was one of the first organizations in the region to help develop a H’mong owned homestay project. Since then, all programs put the money earned back into the community through projects such as providing winter clothes to children and improvements to the village schools. The organization’s main teaching center encourages minority people to participate more fully and equitably in the tourist economy of Sapa and the surrounding area.
