    The AHREM office in Mae Sot has been operational since July 2011. A small cohort of students study English as a second language, as well as computers, human rights, and environmental issues. The goals of AHREM are to enhance knowledge and understanding of human and environmental rights, to collect data on these issues, to collaborate with human rights and environmental organizations locally and globally and to share and distribute information.

    Blue Ventures

    Belize, Madagascar, & Timor Leste

    Blue Ventures is a nonprofit offering marine conservation expeditions in Belize, Madagascar, and Timor-Leste to monitor marine conservation programs. Volunteers contribute through data collection during research dives, and fees cover all food, lodging, training, and diving throughout the weeks. Although some of the programs act as a citizen science type volunteer experience, the organization also offers discounts for medics, as well as supports undergraduate students with independent research projects related to marine conservation.

    The Bukit Lawang Trust Centre is a dedicated Education Centre offering free English lessons for young people and adults, a free mother and toddler learning group at the kindergarten, and a library. It runs extra lessons in maths, science and arts and crafts and has a strong emphasis on conservation education.

    In operation for over 40 years, Chipangali cares for over 150+ animals and birds and welcomes volunteers of all ages from all over the world. This means that families with children under 17 are welcome so long as kids are supervised, and older volunteers may also come and support the organization’s wildlife rehabilitation work and release centers.

    Cloudbridge Nature Reserve and Reforestation Project

    San Gerardo de Rivas, Costa Rica

    Founded in 2002, Cloudbridge Nature Reserve is a private, non-profit cloudforest reserve in the Talamanca mountains of Costa Rica. Beginning with the purchase of degraded farmland, Cloudbridge has been actively reforesting the area in order to connect the forests of the Cerro Chirripó National Park with adjacent nature reserves and forested areas. Beyond reforestation work, Cloudbridge is also committed to environmental education and conducting research on the unique and diverse cloudforest ecosystem. Cloudbridge has need of volunteers and research interns, and also welcomes independent researchers.
