    Volunteers Peru

    Arequipa, Peru

    Volunteers Peru is a small registered Non-Governmental Organisation based in the city of Arequipa in southern Peru. They are currently working on two projects. The first is a home for abandoned girls in Arequipa; the second is a primary and secondary school in the town of Tomepampa near Cotahuasi canyon. They are committed to assisting the children that we work with to fulfill their personal and educational needs, and to promoting cultural awareness and mutual understanding.

    The Anidaso Nsae Foundation

    Oyarifa-Teman, Ghana

    The Anidaso Nsae Foundation is a non-profit organization aimed at providing education and health care to developing communities in Ghana. The foundation is currently sponsoring 20 students at our partner school, Wisdom Academy and looking to expand our partnership. We are also working in connection with local health facilities to provide education on HIV and AIDS awareness, as well as information about sexual health, nutrition, and sanitation.

    The Curriculum Project provides curricula, materials and teacher training to further education and adult education projects run by Burmese exile, refugee and migrant communities on the Burma border.

    KZVTC is a school for adult migrant workers and other young adults with a focus on quality teaching of language and computer skills. Several levels of English, Thai, Burmese and computer skills are offered. Students are offered job skills training with other partners to prepare our students for the workplace. KZVTC provides a safe and creative environment for the sharing of ideas and knowledge to empower the Burmese community, regardless of an individual’s ethnicity, religion, race or gender. Volunteers are required to teach English, help edit and write reports, and help with fundraising activities.

    Sapa O'Chau

    Sapa, Vietnam

    Sapa O’Chau was one of the first organizations in the region to help develop a H’mong owned homestay project. Since then, all programs put the money earned back into the community through projects such as providing winter clothes to children and improvements to the village schools. The organization’s main teaching center encourages minority people to participate more fully and equitably in the tourist economy of Sapa and the surrounding area.

    La Esperanza Granada

    Granada, Nicaragua

    La Esperanza Granada is a volunteer group focused on children’s education. The organization reaches more than 2,000 children in poverty-stricken areas, and focuses on trying to help in non-invasive ways by working directly with local schools, teachers, and parents to meet educational needs. Programs run in the school system and involve assisting teachers, tutoring small children, running sports programs, teaching English, and stimulating an interest in learning.

    The Bukit Lawang Trust Centre is a dedicated Education Centre offering free English lessons for young people and adults, a free mother and toddler learning group at the kindergarten, and a library. It runs extra lessons in maths, science and arts and crafts and has a strong emphasis on conservation education.

    Sanlaap

    Kolkata, India

    Sanlaap is a development organization that works towards correction of social imbalances, which manifest in gender injustice and violence against woman and children. The organization runs a shelter, medical rehabilitation for girls we rescue from brothels, youth group, support group, and rehabilitation initiatives (in textiles). Volunteers are able to assist in these projects depending on skill levels — the organization accepts help in everything from the medical program and mental health services program, to teaching and playing with the children.

The people behind EDF believe that childen, especially those in poverty-stricken areas, are entitled to equal opportunities for education.
