Rehash Trash

Rehash Trash is a Green Gecko social enterprise, working with 100+ former street children and their 32 families over the past 10 years. The organization offers a range of fun, hands-on workshops for tourists, with funds used to support training and employment initiatives.

Following a ‘sustainable families’ forum’, led by the students for their parents, Green Gecko Project developed a plan that would provide a steady income in a safe and happy environment for their mothers, women who had never had the chance in life to know what it was like to have a steady job that was neither degrading or dangerous. The result was Rehash Trash, a daily workshop that turns dirty roadside rubbish into incredible funky fashion. Sadly, raw material is in abundance… discarded plastic bags which are collected each day.

Visit Rehash Trash and do a make-your-own customer workshop, learn how the mothers turn plastic bags into beautiful accessories, and have them teach you how to crochet your own bit of Rehash Trash to take away with you. You can also learn about the other Green Gecko Projects helping marginalized people in the community.
