New Light

Located in Kalighat, the Red Light District of Kolkata, New Light provides education, shelter, and support for women who are victims of human trafficking. The organization also has a strong focus on HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and education. Volunteers are needed in a range of fields to support projects and programs.

New Light operates from the terrace of a temple deep inside the red-light district of Kalighat, Kolkata that offers comprehensive community development services. The project provides the children of sex workers a safe haven, particularly in the evening hours when streets are the most dangerous and the mothers are working.

Volunteers are welcome to contact the organization with their skills and time commitment, and you will work together on assessing where and how your skills can be used by New Light. Interns are required to develop a more formal project or study in: social work, law, development studies, nursing, pedagogy, international cooperation, photography, etc.

Duration
Volunteers must commit to two weeks minimum. Interns are required for a one month minimum, up to six months.
Fees
No fee, volunteers must provide their own food and lodging.
