Volunteer Opportunities in Oaxaca

Volunteering in Oaxaca can be a meaningful and rewarding experience, offering opportunities to make a positive impact on the community, learn about a new culture, gain new skills, build meaningful connections, and have a unique travel experience. As one of the poorest states in Mexico, there are many underserved communities and individuals in Oaxaca that can benefit greatly from volunteer efforts. Volunteering in Oaxaca can also provide opportunities for personal and professional growth and allow for a deeper understanding and appreciation of the local culture.

For volunteers visiting Oaxaca for either a a short or long visit, the Center has opportunities. They always need tutors in English, or you can sign up for an intercambio—where you can practice your Spanish while students practice their English.

  • Teaching English: Native English speakers must commit a minimum of three months to offer supplementary support to the Center’s main English curriculum. This could be through themed workshops or one to one tutoring. For long-term volunteers, the Center often also puts together a small class for English instruction. Volunteers with special skills also design workshops to focus on the needs of students and staff.
  • Intercambio: Get to know a student with insights into her/his life & culture and share yours too. In addition, improve your Spanish while helping improve the student’s English. It is a wonderful experience.
