Oaxaca Streetchildren Grassroots

Many street children in Oaxaca sell trinkets and food to help their parents and families survive. Oaxaca Streetchildren Grassroots aims to break that cycle and help the children and families in the program afford to send their children to school and gain the necessary skills to thrive. The organizations uses volunteers to help at the center and to run the various programs.

The organization aims to help children and young adults realize their dream of an education as a means to better their lives, support themselves and their families, and to fully participate in Mexican society. The organization funds more than 600 children in helping them obtain an education and support, as well as have nutritious meals.

Volunteers are used to:

  • Assist in the kitchen
  • Assist in the library
  • Work with the children in the computer lab
  • Tutor and assist with reading and homework
  • Translate letters (for Spanish Speakers)
  • Work with the children on art and other projects
  • Other assigned duties
Duration
GV suggests that all volunteers working with children commit the maximum amount of time possible to mitigate negative impact on the children. Please consider visiting social enterprises instead if you have less than two weeks to dedicate to the cause.
Fees
