Are you planning to visit North Sumatra in your travels to Indonesia? If you’re keen to give back to the community then consider Rumah Pintar / Smart Home (”Jungle School Adventure Volunteers”.)

The organizations is looking for both temporary and long-term volunteers, international or local. You can volunteer and enjoy the beautiful landscape of the rainforest. What you can do to help depends on your interests, skills, and time to commit. They welcome people with any skill level.

Projects:

  • Teaching at Rumah Pintar/Smart Home (”Jungle-School”)
  • Tree Planting

Teaching:
Teaching is 4 days a week for 3 hours in the afternoons. The children come from surrounding villages to practice their English skills. You will be accompanied by a local teacher as well who will help with translation. You can choose to stay on site or in Bukit Lawang.

Tree planting:
Volunteer with the tree planting program. Work in the gardens around the school helping with eco friendly initiatives.

Duration
We are looking for both temporary and long-term volunteers to teach at our school in the jungle. We would like people to stay a minimum of 5 days but we are flexible. GV volunteers working with children are encouraged to stay a bare minimum of two weeks.
Fees
There are no fees to volunteer, just a fee for accommodation if you stay at the lodge (150,000 rupiah in 2018)
